When I'm not hanging on to a rockface... 

I live in Oxford, where I work as a cognitive scientist and AI researcher. My research uses methods from psychology and cognitive neuroscience to study how minds, human and artificial, represent the world and reason about it. My PhD tested whether the language we speak shapes how we think about the future (it does, though not in the way people expected). These days I apply the same experimental toolkit to large language models, asking what they actually understand and how to make them safer. Along the way I co-founded two AI companies: Texture AI, which helps governments and charities communicate more effectively, and Ogma Therapy, which builds AI speech therapy tools for children and was acquired in 2026.
